When Lauren Williams first started down a career path, she thought her work would involve a telescope.
But after getting a taste of volunteering on health care issues, she realized there is another way to see the big picture and how it affects people in Nebraska.
We’re excited to introduce you to Lauren, who joined Appleseed in December as a contract field organizer in our Health Care program. Lauren will work in different Nebraska communities to develop leaders, collect individual stories, and empower people to take action to close the coverage gap that leaves over 54,000 working Nebraskans without health insurance.
“I have friends who put off going to the doctor because they cannot afford it,” Lauren said. “Access to affordable health care is a no-brainer to me. I wanted to work with Appleseed to make sure all Nebraskans can receive the medical treatment they need.”
Lauren is originally from Omaha and is a recent graduate of the University of Minnesota, where she received a degree in sociology last May.
She originally studied astrophysics in college, but after volunteering for campaigns and health care initiatives during the Supreme Court’s 2012 ruling on the Affordable Care Act, Lauren discovered a passion for health care advocacy. It is that passion that ultimately brought her to Appleseed.
We couldn’t be happier to have Lauren’s help as we continue our fight for all Nebraskans to have access to quality, affordable health care.
