SUMMARY:Long Distance Advocacy Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Every Nebraskan should be able to make their voice heard on issues they care about. However\, we know that for folks who live further from Lincoln or who lack reliable transportation\, it can be hard to know how to make a difference on issues that affect our state. \nJoin us on April 6 at 6:30 pm for a virtual workshop covering multiple ways you can advocate for the issues you care about when you can’t make it to the Capitol building. \nRegister online. \nThis workshop will offer: \n\nTried and true techniques we’ve used to raise awareness and build support on issues you care about\nOptions and strategies for contacting your senators\nOpportunities to learn from each other’s knowledge and experience with advocacy\n\nWe hope you can join us for this conversation! Please contact mhamann@neappleseed.org if you have any questions or challenges registering. \nThis event is the first of a series in partnership with Nebraska Poor People’s Campaign\, Civic Nebraska\, Nebraska Interfaith Power & Light all centered around strengthening community members’ advocacy capacity. Look out for upcoming opportunities here!

SUMMARY:Community Event: Learn About Medicaid Changes
DESCRIPTION:Medicaid renewals have restarted\, and for the first time in years\, people with Medicaid could lose their coverage as DHHS conducts renewals. The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has identified that at least 145\,000 Nebraskans may be at risk of losing their Medicaid coverage. \nJoin us for an in-person community presentation and conversation at the Malcolm X Memorial Foundation to learn more about these changes\, the Medicaid renewal process\, who it may impact\, and what can be done to prepare. \nLight refreshments will be provided\, and everyone who registers and attends the duration of the conversation will have their name entered into a drawing to win a $40 Walmart gift card! \nRegistration is required by April 19.

SUMMARY:Volunteer hours: sign-making and phone calls for minimum wage and LGBTQIA+ support
DESCRIPTION:We have a 2-for-1 volunteer opportunity with our friends at OutNebraska in the Raise the Wage Nebraska coalition. \nJoin us to make calls for LGBTQ+ action or help us make signs to support minimum wage workers. \nYou’re welcome to join in both or either action. \nMore info on the action/activities: \nOutNebraska will be hitting the streets to talk with our Lincoln neighbors about trans rights\, and we need help finding advocates for this work! You’ll be calling other volunteers and LGBTQ supporters. If you have a computer\, please bring it\, otherwise we will have iPads to use for the phone bank script. \nRaise the Wage and Nebraska Appleseed are raising awareness and support for folks working minimum wage. We need help making physical signs and digital graphics highlighting our struggle and our commitment to a better life through better wages. We’ll have materials to make physical signs and at least one laptop to design graphics on. Feel free to bring your own sign making materials or phones/laptops/tablets for digital graphics!
