SUMMARY:Halloween Housing Potluck
DESCRIPTION:Is your housing situation spooky? Tell us more at our Halloween Housing Potluck on Wednesday\, October 22nd\, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Peter Pan Park in the Open Shelter! Join Lincoln for Fair Housing to connect with fellow Lincolnites over a shared meal and discussion of our housing experiences\, dreams\, and schemes! Children are welcome\, and we’ll have Halloween-themed coloring sheets for them! Let us know you’re coming by RSVPing at bit.ly/H-POTLUCK25 \nHere’s what you can expect: \nLocation: Peter Pan Park\, Open Shelter (32nd & W St.\, Lincoln\, NE 68503). We’ll be outside under the shade of the open shelter\, and we will sit at the picnic tables provided there. A playground is located next to the open shelter\, where kids can play while in view of their parents/caregivers. You can see a photo and more information about the open shelter at here. The nearest bus stop is at the Southwest corner of North 33rd & X St. Additional bus stops near the park are located at 33rd and Vine St and at 31st and Vine St. Track the bus\, plan your trip\, and/or buy your bus pass here. \n5:30 PM: Dinner & Costume Contest! We’ll start off with a potluck dinner. You’re welcome to bring a dish to share\, although it’s not required. If you have a costume to wear\, we’d love to see it! While we’re eating\, we’ll invite folks to show off their costumes for a little red-carpet moment and explain who/what they’re dressed as. Housing-themed costumes are encouraged\, such as dressing as your favorite part of your home\, a housing hero\, etc. (Costumes that blame\, shame\, or attack others are not welcome.) Every attendee will be given two blank paper slips to vote for their favorite costumes\, and the top two costumes will be awarded a spooktacular prize! \n6:00 PM: Discussion! We love getting together with our neighbors and learning about each others’ housing experiences\, the dreams we have for our housing futures\, and the work already being led by Lincolnites to advance affordable\, safe\, and accessible housing. As we approach the upcoming legislative session\, we will be on the defense to protect our housing rights. It’s important to ground ourselves in the housing experiences of Lincoln renters\, families\, and low-wage workers\, and we will bring themes from our conversation to inform what comes next for fair housing in Lincoln and Nebraska. \n7:00 PM: Closing \nRegarding COVID-19 and community care: If you are feeling unwell or have been in close contact with someone who is feeling unwell\, please stay home. Likewise\, if you suspect that you have contracted or been exposed to COVID-19\, please stay home. COVID-19 is a threat to the safety and wellbeing of all people\, but especially for disabled\, immunocompromised\, and folks with high risk factors. These communities are also disproportionately impacted by many of the housing issues our group seeks to address\, so let’s keep their safety in mind. We will provide KN95 masks to participants who wish to wear them to prevent the transmission of COVID-19\, and we are hosting this event outdoors to improve ventilation. \nLearn more about Lincoln for Fair Housing at FairHousingLNK.org. SUMMARY:60 Years of Medicaid: Celebrate and Protect Our Health Care
DESCRIPTION:Join Planned Parenthood Advocates of Nebraska\, ACLU Nebraska\, and Nebraska Appleseed in celebration of Medicaid’s legacy and an urgent call to action. \nFor 60 years\, Medicaid has been a lifeline for Nebraskans—providing essential health care to children\, families\, seniors\, and people with disabilities. But today\, that care is under threat. Politicians rushed through harmful federal legislation that slashes Medicaid funding\, blocks care at trusted providers like Planned Parenthood\, and strips coverage from those who need it most. \nWe’ll gather in celebration of what Medicaid has made possible\, and we’ll strategize on how to defend and strengthen this critical program for the next 60 years. Expect inspiring stories\, opportunities to take action\, and ways to connect with others who believe health care is a human right. Let’s honor Medicaid’s past and fight for its future\, together. \nFacebook Event | Register
