SNAP bill up for debate as soon as today

UnicameralThe budget was the primary focus of floor debate last week. Legislators will continue to move the budget through the process this week, along with priority bills. While we are two-thirds of the way through this session, there are still several Appleseed legislative priorities that are pending before the body.

SNAP cliff effect bill up for debate today

The Legislature could debate LB108, Senator John McCollister’s priority bill, as soon as today. LB108 addresses the SNAP cliff effect, where a small raise at work triggers a much larger loss of the SNAP benefits families rely on. This bill helps families avoid the tough choice between accessing better job opportunities and keeping food on their tables. Especially after the impacts of this past year, we need to make sure that Nebraskans are able to feed themselves and their families.

Call your senator’s office today to share your support for this bill. You can also submit a comment on LB108 anytime by clicking the “submit comment” option on the LB108 page.

Housing justice bill passes second round of voting

LB320, introduced and prioritized by Senator John Cavanaugh, passed “select file” this morning, which is the second round of voting. It will now move on to final reading and if it passes final reading, it will go to the Governor for his signature. This bill and its accompanying amendment contains a number of important updates to Nebraska’s Landlord-Tenant Act that will help address Nebraska’s housing needs and provide tenants better access to justice.

These changes are crucial to ensuring housing justice is afforded to tenants in Nebraska. You can continue to show your support for this bill by emailing your senator here.
