Lisa Holmquist joined Nebraska Appleseed this fall as the Executive Assistant. She grew up in Ogallala, NE, and loved having Lake McConaughy close by! Nonetheless, she’s been happy to call Lincoln ‘home’ for many years. Lisa’s pronouns are she/her/hers.
Lisa received her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and Sociology from Nebraska Wesleyan University. She spent the past 17 years as Office Manager (Gallery Director) at the Burkholder Project, which is a collection of art studios and gallery spaces located in the Haymarket. Lisa’s skills include, but are not limited to, interpersonal communication and administration.
“Last summer, I unexpectedly found myself in the job market and I’m very grateful that I was led to Nebraska Appleseed,” said Lisa. “The mission of the organization is close to my heart and I am honored to join the fight for social justice on behalf of Nebraskans. The more I learn, the more I see that there is still much work to be done in many areas.”
It has been an interesting month full of new experiences for Lisa. In addition to starting her role here at Nebraska Appleseed, her son and daughter-in-law (who live in Omaha) adopted a baby girl – Lisa’s first grandchild – and her daughter was married recently in Kansas City! There is much to be thankful for.
“I am an avid walker but I admit to also being a ‘wimp’ with regard to cold weather. So when the weather isn’t decent, I spend more time reading – which I also love to do,” said Lisa. She also enjoys painting landscapes and florals in her spare time.
