Today, Nebraska Appleseed Executive Director Rebecca Gould made the following statement on LB 577, the legislative bill that would implement the Affordable Care Act’s new Medicaid program in Nebraska.
“LB 577 is a tremendous step toward ensuring the future health of Nebraskans. The bill ensures that we take advantage of the opportunity to provide access to health care to at least 54,000 uninsured Nebraskans. It is a good deal for our state. It is fully federally funded for the first three years which will return $2.3 billion to our economy through 2020 and create thousands of jobs. It will improve access to care in Nebraska’s rural communities, where uninsured rates are higher than in our cities, and stabilize many rural communities, where hospitals are some of the largest employers. And passing LB 577 is the right thing to do. It is our opportunity to make a smart investment in our state’s economy and workforce, to make our state’s health system stronger and more cost-effective, and to ensure hard-working Nebraskans will be healthier by getting the medical care they need.”
