Two hundred. That’s the approximate number of landlords one Lincolnite had to call to find one place to rent. They were turned away again and again just because they would use a housing voucher to help pay for rent. Discrimination like this is why the Lincoln for Fair Housing coalition worked to get source of income protections on the ballot in Lincoln, and why last May, 66% of Lincoln voters passed it!
Now, it’s been one year of source of income protections in Lincoln. Prospective renters can no longer be turned away just because of how they would pay their rent. Whether its housing vouchers, social security, veterans benefits, disability, or other legal sources of income, finding a place to call home is now a brighter reality for many Lincolnites.
We did this together. Eighteen coalition members, 100+ Lincolnlites collected signatures, 15k+ signed the petition, and 25k+ voters all made this policy a reality. When we work together we win a better future for ourselves and our neighbors.
The affordable housing crisis is complicated, and we know source of income protections isn’t the last piece of the puzzle. There’s still more to do to ensure that every Nebraskan has a place to call home. Email Elizabeth to get connected and join the movement!

We all deserve a chance at home, and our communities are strongest when everyone has access to affordable, safe, and accessible housing to care for our loved ones and enjoy a quality, healthy life. We’ll keep fighting until this vision is a reality for all Nebraskans!
