ALERT: Senators will debate Hunger-Free Schools Act today

Today,Thursday, April 2, senators will debate ✅ LB966 (M. Cavanaugh), aka the Hunger-Free Schools Act, on General File. This bill would make more students in families with low incomes eligible for free school meals.

Families eligible for reduced-price school meals (e.g. those earning between 130% and 185% FPL or $3573 and $5,087 per month for a family of 4) pay $.30 for breakfast and $.40 for lunch. That can really add up over time with limited budgets, multiple kids, and rising prices!

LB966 would ensure that all reduced-price eligible student meals are free, lightening the burden on hardworking families that are trying to make ends meet while basic costs continue to rise. This would impact around 27,000 kids statewide in Nebraska schools.

Schools should be a place where all kids get the food they need. Thank you for speaking up for Nebraska families and children!
