The fight to protect Medicaid retroactive coverage is now at the Capitol. ✅ LB958, which protects this coverage, is up for debate today.
We know Nebraskans value Medicaid’s retroactive coverage – over 1,200 comments were submitted within the last few weeks telling DHHS to abandon its harmful proposal to eliminate retroactive coverage for all Medicaid enrollees.
Medicaid retroactive coverage covers health care bills for low-income Medicaid enrollees for a certain time prior to their month of application if they would have been eligible for Medicaid at the time. This coverage is especially critical for those facing health crises and protects low-income Nebraskans from crippling medical debt and ensures that hospitals can keep their doors open.
LB958 protects retroactive coverage, requiring the state to provide the amount of retroactive coverage set by Congress’ budget bill (H.R.1 or the One Big Beautiful Bill) from last summer.
