SAY NO TO EARLY MEDICAID WORK REQUIREMENTS

The Governor announced that Nebraska would be the first in the nation to implement the problematic Medicaid expansion work reporting requirements required by the “One Big Beautiful Bill” 8 months before they are supposed to take effect. Recognizing the complexity and harm of the work reporting requirements, no other state has publicly committed to an early implementation date for the work requirements.

Still, Nebraska is moving forward at lightning speed, seeking little feedback on this herculean effort and providing very little information about the details of how the work requirements will operate, leaving 70,000 Nebraskans guessing about whether they will be able to access health care in just a few months.

Nebraska released its proposed regulations (477 NAC 29) regarding the work reporting requirements, and we need your help to tell our state that early implementation of the work reporting requirements is not right for Nebraska. Find more information about the hearing here

Key Points for Comments to DHHS:

  • Don’t Rush: Early implementation of work reporting requirements will unnecessarily cause people to lose coverage, be expensive, and cause confusion.
  • Be Clear: The draft regulations make it clear that Nebraska is not ready to implement the Medicaid expansion work requirements – many terms are left undefined, processes are not clarified, and there are not enough protections to make sure Nebraskans are informed of the work reporting requirements and decisions made about their health care.
  • Minimize Burdens: The documentation requirements outlined in the regulations are vague and unclear.

Nebraska needs to take its time to implement the federally mandated work requirements. Let’s join together to take a stand against the harmful decision to implement the work requirements early and protect our fellow Nebraskans’ access to care. The time is now.
