Despite thousands of Nebraskans demanding that our Legislature honor the will of voters, 33 senators chose today to undermine our state’s voter-approved minimum wage law by passing ❌LB258 on Final Reading.
This bill creates a subminimum wage for workers under the age of 20 and adds restrictions on the cost of living increases that Nebraskans voted for via Initiative 433.
The Legislature’s decision today means that Nebraska wages will once again fail to keep pace with the cost of living. The increases that we voted for are now capped at a meager 1.75%, giving hardworking Nebraskans a projected minimum wage raise of only 26 cents in 2027.
It also means that thousands of young workers, who are already being paid Nebraska’s current minimum wage of $15/hour, will now see their pay decreased to $13.50/hour and will not see a raise in their minimum wage until 2030.

- If they voted NO on LB258, please thank them for respecting the will of Nebraska voters – and for standing up for working Nebraskans.
We know that every Nebraskan should receive fair pay, regardless of their age. LB258 directly undermines changes that were overwhelmingly approved by Nebraska voters, and it will prevent thousands of Nebraskans from being able to access the good life.
If you, like us, want to limit future legislation that disregards the will of voters, I encourage you to get involved with Respect Nebraska Voters, an initiative to change the number of state lawmakers required to undo or change laws voters have passed from two-thirds (33 votes) of the state legislature to a four-fifths supermajority (40 votes).
This constitutional amendment would also protect our freedom to vote on important issues facing our communities by strengthening protections for the ballot initiative process itself. Find opportunities to get involved!
Thank you for your continued advocacy!
