At the Capitol: Bill Introduction Complete, 2026 Appleseed Priorities

Last week, the Legislature completed its ten days of new bill introduction with more than 500 new bills and proposed constitutional amendments introduced this session. You can click here to view the entire list of introduced bills.

Hearings have also begun and will continue through the end of February. Floor debate will happen in the mornings and hearings will take place in the afternoon.

At Appleseed, we are ready to get down to business at the Capitol, fighting for justice and opportunity for all Nebraskans. All of our priority bills have been introduced, including legislation that would:

  • Support young people navigating the child welfare system
  • Expand food and nutrition access
  • Strengthen worker safety, wages, and protections
  • Advance housing justice
  • Support families navigating the rising cost of living
  • Ensure equitable access to healthcare
  • Protect immigrant community members and asylum seekers from deportation and family separation

Yesterday, we testified against ❌ LB870 (Senator Bob Anderson) andLB1061 (Senator Dave Murman), both of which would repeal Nebraska’s successful education policy of 20 years that ensures Nebraska youth who grow up in local communities and graduate from Nebraska high schools can continue their education at in-state tuition rates, regardless of immigration status.

We also testified in favor of ✅ LB921 (Senator Teresa Ibach) which protects hardworking Nebraskans and whole communities by requiring additional notice to workers if their place of employment will close or have a mass layoff.

There are other important hearings coming up this week that you can attend in person, stream online, or submit a comment on:
