ALERT: Stolen January SNAP Benefits and Steps to Protect Future Benefits

We’ve seen very recent reports of a large number of Nebraskans having their SNAP benefits stolen because of skimming the past few days. Skimming is a scam where hidden devices are used to steal card information and benefits during transactions at grocery stores.

To help protect yourself now and in the future, please take the following steps, recommended by Nebraska DHHS:

  • Use the ebtEDGE or Propel apps to lock your card between purchases.
  • Change your PIN frequently (at least monthly).
  • Check your SNAP account regularly for unauthorized transactions.
  • Be cautious of card readers that look damaged, loose, or unusual.
  • Report lost or stolen cards immediately.

If you notice suspicious activity on your account or have had benefits stolen, contact local law enforcement to report. You should also contact DHHS’s Special Investigation Unit at 402-595-3789 or DHHS.InvestigationSIU@nebraska.gov.

Congress has ended replacement benefits for SNAP scam victims. Please take steps to protect your benefits now.
