We are excited to announce that Nebraska Appleseed Action Fund / Nebraska Appleseed is part of a new effort to ensure that our state lawmakers respect the will of the people once voters have spoken at the ballot box.
This morning, we joined our friends and partners to officially file language for a new ballot initiative, Respect Nebraska Voters, which will protect our right to propose and vote on laws that put hardworking families first – and ensure that when Nebraskans make a decision at the ballot box, politicians respect it.
We’ll be collecting signatures soon to get this initiative on the November 2026 ballot.
If a majority of Nebraska voters approve, the Respect Nebraska Voters ballot initiative will change the number of members of the Nebraska Legislature required to undo or change laws voters have passed from two-thirds of the Legislature to a four-fifths supermajority. It also protects our freedom to vote on important issues facing our communities by strengthening protections for the ballot initiative process itself, preventing politicians from passing laws that restrict the people’s ability to bring initiatives.
