After finding out the horrific news from Governor Jim Pillen about ICE plans to repurpose a Nebraska facility as a large-scale federal detainment camp, thank you for taking important action together with more than 18,000 Nebraskans from communities all across the state, letting the Governor know: This is not who we are. We are grateful to each Nebraskan who signed the petition or made their voice heard as part of last Friday’s legislature committee hearing to strongly oppose these plans.
Now an important next step is to send that same message to Nebraska’s members of Congress: We need policy change, NOT punishment.
The country’s immigration laws have not been meaningfully updated in nearly 40 years. This leaves friends, families, and neighbors vulnerable to immigration enforcement who have been unable to access stable immigration status despite their best efforts to navigate the nation’s long outdated immigration laws. Nebraskans want immigration policy change that supports local communities and Nebraska’s future, not punishment and military deployments.
➡️ Call or email Nebraska’s members of Congress to tell them we do not want a large-scale detainment camp in our state, and instead it’s time for positive, updated immigration laws that create stability for local families and communities. It’s time to address the root of the problem that leaves Nebraska families, neighbors, employers, and whole communities with constant uncertainty, and now with family separation and community disruption on an increasing basis.

Solutions that support Nebraska communities are possible if Congress takes action. Thank you for your continued advocacy.
