LB319 Veto Override Fails – Nebraska’s SNAP Ban Continues

After a long and difficult battle with many, many ups and downs, LB319, a bill to end the lifetime SNAP ban for drug felony convictions in Nebraska, has failed for the year.

After a vote of 32-17 on Final Reading, today’s veto override motion failed to pass with a vote of 24-24. A total of 30 votes were needed to override Governor Pillen’s veto.

See how your senator voted here. If they voted YES to override the veto, please thank them for standing up for Nebraskans who need access to these critical benefits.

While this is a heartbreaking vote for the thousands of people subject to the ban and their families, many of whom will continue struggling to put food on the table, we are proud of the senators and advocates who pushed this bill the farthest it has ever gone in Nebraska.

The momentum is growing. Even through setbacks, we won’t stop fighting for this until this ban is gone – it is too important.

Thank you for your advocacy on this bill throughout this legislative session. We look forward to continuing the fight to end the SNAP ban with you in the future.
