Last week, Governor Pillen VETOED ✅ LB319 – a bill to restore SNAP access to the over 1,000 Nebraskans who are under a lifetime ban because of past felony drug convictions.
‼️TOMORROW, the Legislature will vote to override or sustain this short-sighted and cruel veto.
We need to remind Senators that:
- Our fellow Nebraskans reentering society after incarceration still need food to survive.
- This bill has no financial impact on the state.
- The SNAP ban hurts kids and spouses of impacted people because benefits decrease when a banned person is in the household.
- Bipartisan senators crafted a compromise amendment to ensure treatment is still required when addiction is present.
- We should not be withholding food as a form of consequence for anyone!
Contact your senator NOW and urge them to OVERRIDE this veto:
Thank you AGAIN for your advocacy!
