Call to action

ACTION ALERT: Important bills on tomorrow’s agenda

Tomorrow, three important bills are up for Final Reading. This is our last chance to make our voices heard on the following issues:

LB192 (Quick) preserves access to food for thousands of Nebraska families by maintaining the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)’s income eligibility level, which will decrease in October unless the legislature acts now.

LB258 (Raybould) harms Nebraska workers by severely weakening our state’s minimum wage law. If passed on Final Reading, this bill would create a subminimum wage for workers under the age of 20 AND restrict the cost of living increases that Nebraskans voted for in 2022.

LB319 (Rountree) helps Nebraskans get the food they need by eliminating the lifetime ban on Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits for people with certain drug felony convictions.

There is another important bill up for Select File (second round) debate:

LB89 (Kauth) is an expansion of the school bathroom and sports bill that was defeated last year and would create definitions of “male” and “female” that K-12 schools, postsecondary institutions, and ALL state agencies would be required to follow.

Trans Nebraskans deserve access to the same school activities and facilities as other Nebraskans. Denying them this access sends a clear message that they don’t belong, and will only harm their ability to thrive in the long-term. This bill won’t protect anyone.

If your state representative hasn’t heard from you on LB89 yet, contact them today. Your voice is needed.

Thank you for your continued advocacy this year! Every call, every email, every action that you take matters in our fight for justice and opportunity.
