Legislative Update

At the Capitol: 20 Days Left in Session!

It’s Day 70 of the 2025 Legislative Session, and we’re still at the Capitol every day fighting for a Nebraska in which every person can thrive.

Here’s an update on how you can take action this week:

Last week, the Legislature advanced three important bills on which you can still make your voice heard:

LB192 (Sen. Quick) was advanced to Final Reading. This bill preserves access to food for thousands of Nebraska families by maintaining the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)’s current income eligibility level – which will decrease in October unless the state senators act now.

LB275 (Sen. Hunt) was advanced to Select File. This bill provides more transparency, opportunities for engagement, and access to benefits for young people in foster care receiving social security benefits.

LB89 (Sen. Kauth) was also advanced to Select File. This bill restricts what activities and spaces trans Nebraskans have access to and requires all state agencies to follow its narrow definitions of “male” and “female.” LB89 is harmful, unnecessary, and inaccurate. Trans Nebraskans deserve access to the same school activities and facilities as other Nebraskans.

The following bills are on Select File and could come up for debate again at any time:

LB258 (Sen. Raybould) would harm workers by severely weakening Nebraska’s minimum wage law by carving out a subminimum wage for workers under the age of 20 AND restricting the cost of living increases that Nebraskans voted for.

LB415 (Sen. Ballard) removes paid sick leave protections from 140,000 hardworking Nebraskans and removes important protections for workers who face retaliation from their employers for using paid sick leave.

Become a monthly Sustaining Supporter and provide critical flexibility all year long. While it may seem small, even gifts of $5 and $10 a month add up to make a long-term impact, especially during these challenging times.
