Paid Sick Leave qualified for ballot!

Today, the Secretary of State confirmed that the Paid Sick Leave for Nebraskans ballot initiative is the first to have qualified for the November 2024 ballot!

Right now, more than one-third of full-time workers and more than three-quarters of part-time workers—approximately 250,000 workers statewide—have no access to paid sick leave to take care of themselves or their families.

The initiative will enable workers to earn up to 40 hours of paid sick leave annually at businesses with fewer than 20 employees, and up to 56 hours of paid sick leave annually at businesses with 20 or more employees. It also provides core protections for workers to use their leave.

Now, voters like you and me will get to vote for our values this November. We get to ensure that no worker has to choose between their health and their paycheck.

This milestone is thanks to your advocacy and so many Nebraskans and organizations working together in the Paid Sick Leave for Nebraskans coalition who joined together to collect an amazing 138,000 signatures to put this on the ballot!

In the coming weeks, we’ll learn the ballot initiative’s number and look forward to sharing more about how you can help paid sick leave cross the finish line this November.

Thank you for standing with us and being part of a network of advocates statewide winning change in the community and at the ballot box.
