We stand against discrimination in federal nutrition programs

No child deserves to go hungryNo child deserves to go hungry for any reason. Allowing discrimination of any kind only hurts our communities.

Recently, Nebraska’s Governor and Attorney General joined a lawsuit challenging the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s policy that prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in accessing federal nutrition programs.

Excluding people because of who they are is not only wrong, it’s shameful.

When Nebraskans speak up, we make our state a better place. We must come together to oppose this attack on Nebraska’s kids, on LGBTQIA+ Nebraskans, and on the health and well-being of our communities at large.

We want to hear from you. How will this lawsuit impact you, your kids, your schools, or your communities? Please reach out to Megan, our Food and Nutrition Access Organizer, at mhamann@neappleseed.org to share your story.

Eliminating discriminatory practices that make it harder to access federal nutrition programs benefits everyone in our community. All Nebraskans deserve access to the nutrition they need to thrive.

Our communities are strongest when everyone feels that they belong.
