Young people navigating the child welfare system should have a solid chance at success. Instead, an overwhelming majority of young people eligible for Social Security benefits are unaware they have even received these benefits, due to the State’s taking and spending of them, without youths’ knowledge, consent, or say

The State of Nebraska should be transparent and held accountable. This is why we are testifying in support of Legislative Bill (LB) 932, which provides necessary and long overdue protections, notification, access, and opportunities to save foster youths’ Social Security benefits.

  • Submitting an online public comment by 12 pm CT on Thursday, January 27.

    Click on the Submit Comments Online for LB 932 box, select “Yes” to include your comment in the Hearing Record, and add your comment as a “Proponent” of the bill.

  • Testifying in person or watch the live stream for the Health and Human Services Committee hearing on Friday, January 28 at 1:30 pm CT.

Young people are better set for success when given access, knowledge, and control of their own money, and the opportunity to build a strong financial foundation for when they leave care.
