Predatory Lending

Core Values | Common Ground | Equal Justice

The purpose of the Low-Income Consumer Project is to ensure Nebraska's children, seniors, disabled, and working families have policies in place that help protect them from predatory lenders and utility disconnections. Some examples of our work in this area include: litigation to win back the homes of 11 families involved in a predatory lending scheme and policy proposals that have successfully implemented a true Cold Weather Rule in Nebraska to protect low income families from having their natural gas terminated in the winter's coldest months.

The Low-Income Consumer Project works in coalition with grassroots organizations, government agencies, members of the faith community, and other community groups and sponsors policy and legal initiatives for improved consumer protections in Nebraska.
