Everyone must participate for democracy to work. Sadly few minority , low-income, or young Nebraskans vote or participate in the democratic process which weakens their political voice. This is important because many of today’s crucial issues such as education, jobs and health care directly involve these Nebraskans and decisions are made without their voice.
Everyone benefits when we break down the barriers to voting and support full participation in the democratic process. At Nebraska Appleseed, we encourage low-income, minority, new immigrant and young people to register, to vote and to take part in the political process by registering people to vote, providing education on the civic process and tips on advocacy, and supporting policies that provide an equal opportunity for all Nebraskans. We helped return the right to vote to ex-felons. We make sure every vote counts and everyone participates.
